I have never met the most strongest mentality and the most determined people in my life, who find strength in adversity. No physical, social and emotional limitation can stop them from achieving, they want to break down all barriers. Nothing stops them.
People with HIV/AIDs.
We are to inspire them, but they have inspired me beyond words! You need to hear tough, heart-rendering stories where discrimination slaps you hard in the face. How can you suffer because you have HIV/AIDs?!
-How can a husband get HIV from sleeping around, finds out and gets medical help, but doesn’t tell his wife and gives her HIV?! She finds out, cannot afford healthcare, in-laws find out and treat her like a second class citizen?!
-How can orphans born with HIV be discriminated by their family and wouldn’t allow them their birth/property rights?
-Even the legal system doesn’t apply justice adequately at times because you are a daughter therefore cannot inherit land and even more powerless because you have HIV/AIDs?
-A couple have been trying for a child for a while. Husband became ill, found out that he had HIV. They later got a child who was free from HIV. However, people have stopped their children playing their child because their parents have HIV?!
It is like a modern day leprosy.
They are receiving medical assistance as much their money can allow. There is a level of advocacy going on, making them a little more accepted into society.
However, do you think they wallow in how society plays them down? Nope. They rise. They are making something out of themselves. They have businesses. They refuse to beg, they instead want to get money to survive to pay for their children’s education. They are prepared to walk for miles to get resources to make money for the week. Strong women and men. Wise. smart.
And for this particular association in the pictures below, they have a muslim woman leading a majority Christian group. Unity.
How humbling that they want these young people from abroad to help them! But I pray that we will be able to build and drive their ambitions high.
